Make your stylesheet smaller so pages load faster β or turn a one-line minified CSS file back into something you can read.
Minifying removes everything the browser does not need: comments, spaces, line breaks, the last semicolon in a block, 0px β 0, #ffffff β #fff. The page looks exactly the same but the file is smaller. Beautify does the opposite: it adds line breaks and indents so you can read and edit the code. Text inside quotes and url(β¦) is never touched.
Most normal stylesheets get 15β40% smaller. If your CSS was already minified, the saving is close to 0% β that is fine. Always keep your readable version as the βmasterβ file and upload only the minified copy, for example style.css β style.min.css.
Privacy: everything runs inside your browser. Your text is not sent to our server and is not saved.
No. Only characters the browser ignores are removed. Strings, url() values and the order of rules stay the same.
It helps a little: smaller files load faster, and speed is one of many Google ranking signals. The bigger win is for visitors on slow mobile data.
Comments that start with /*! usually hold a licence note (for example from a library). Tick the option to keep them.
Yes, beautify it first, make your changes, then minify again before you upload.
After you upload new CSS, clear the cache or change the version number in the link (style.css?v=2), otherwise visitors may still see the old file.
