How to read the result

After it runs you are told exactly which pages were removed and how many are left, so you can check the count against what you expected. Your original file on your phone is untouched — a new file is created with "-cleaned" added to the name.

Page numbers here are counted from the start of the file. They are not the numbers printed on the paper. A scan that begins with a cover sheet will have its printed "page 1" as file page 2.

What this tool cannot do

• It cannot show you the pages. You need to know the numbers first. Open the PDF in your normal reader, note the numbers, then come back.
• It cannot remove every page. A PDF must keep at least one.
• It cannot open a password-protected file. Remove the password first.
• It cannot make the file much smaller by itself. Removing pages helps, but for a real size cut use Compress PDF afterwards.
• It cannot undo. There is nothing to undo — the original is never changed.

When people need this

Two cases come up again and again. The first is scanning: phone scanners often catch a blank back side, so a ten-page contract arrives as fifteen pages, half of them empty. The second is privacy — an office asks for the pay slip pages of a document, and the rest is nobody's business. Sending only the pages that were asked for is simply good practice.

2. Type the pages to remove, like 2, 5-6.

4. Download the cleaned file.

Tips that actually help

• Page numbers here are counted from the start of the file, not printed page numbers.
• Blank scanned pages are the most common thing worth removing.
• Always check the result before sending it on.
• To keep only a few pages instead, use Split PDF.
